A Memorable Wedding at the Elegant Peterson-Dumesnil House
The Peterson-Dumesnil House is easily one of my favorite Louisville wedding venues. It blends historic charm with the surrounding nature. Robin and Jeff’s October wedding made the most of the stunning interior and gardens. Despite some poorly-timed rain, they had a sweet garden ceremony that everyone will remember.
A Wedding at the Peterson-Dumesnil House
There’s a lot to love about the Peterson-Dumesnil House. The historic home was built in 1869 in an Italian villa style. You don’t see a lot of that around Louisville. The wide porch is absolutely amazing and so versatile for small ceremonies, cocktail hours, and all-out dance parties during your reception.
This wedding venue has two beautiful getting ready spaces, which is always ideal. You can do a first look out in the gardens or on the sunlit staircase like Robin and Jeff. There are no shortage of backup plans on rainy days here.
The rose garden is a favorite spot for ceremonies. It’s really beautiful. Rose bushes surround a paved area. With a floral arch, you get the feeling of being in your own secret garden with all your favorite people. It’s ideal if you want a garden wedding ceremony without having to hold every part of your wedding day outside.
Here are some quick logistics if you’re considering getting married at this wedding venue:
Capacity: 300 guests
Average Cost: $3,100
Type of Venue: Indoor/outdoor
Clementine Catering does all the catering for weddings at the Peterson-Dumesnil House. The food is always great! They do a good job of tailoring menus to couples.
Because this house was built in the nineteenth century, it has a lot of architectural details that set it apart from your typical wedding venue. The spiral staircase and 14-foot ceilings make an amazing setting for creative photos. These unique features, among others, earned the Peterson-Dumesnil House a spot on the National Historic Register.
Robin and Jeff’s Rainy Day Wedding
Like many of my 2021 couples, Robin and Jeff had originally planned to get married in 2020. They pushed their wedding back an entire year. It was well worth the wait to keep everyone safe. Everyone was also that much more excited to celebrate!
Both Robin and Jeff’s family and wedding parties got ready with them at the Peterson-Dumesnil House. Rain pitter-pattered on and off during the morning. We were a little nervous about the rain putting a damper on the outdoor ceremony, but everyone kept their spirits up.
As it turned out, it did rain a tad harder while Robin and Jeff exchanged vows during the ceremony. You wouldn’t know it by looking at the pictures, though. The rain couldn’t dampen their joy and excitement. Their guests were just as caught up in the moment as they were.
Robin and Jeff’s wedding at the Peterson-Dumesnil House was healing in some ways. The pandemic caused so much chaos and uncertainty. On this day, we could forget all that and soak up the romance (and the rain). Robin and Jeff created a memorable day that their friends and family will cherish for years to come.
The night ended with the best celebration. The toasts and first dances made everyone misty-eyed. Then everyone packed onto the porch for a dance party.
Romantic Fall Wedding Photos
Robin and Jeff held their wedding in October. The Peterson-Dumesnil House is beautiful any time of year, but fall has a special magic. Trees’ leaves were starting to change color and drift down to the grass. Very romantic!
As a wedding photographer, I love creating photos that romanticize life without changing it. That was easy to do with Robin and Jeff’s wedding. Every smile and laugh against the lush backdrop of the Peterson-Dumesnil House gardens held its own charm.
