Cozy Fall Morning with a Louisville Family Photographer

As a Louisville family photographer, I love meeting families where they are. I mean that literally! One of my favorite types of sessions is a “morning in the life” experience. That’s exactly what I did with the Nova family. I share some highlights from this session along with tips on planning your own family photography in Louisville.

At Home with a Louisville Family Photographer

The Nova family asked me to be their Louisville family photographer because they knew change was coming. Neither of their children are in school, but that would change before long. The Novas wanted to preserve this “at home” stage of their lives before all of their routines changed. You can see from these photos that the whole morning had a cozy, intimate atmosphere. The Novas got to exist in their own world together.

We started the day at the very start with everyone getting out of bed. The bright morning light streaming through the windows haloed the kids in a sleepy glow. Still in their pjs, everyone headed to the kitchen to cook breakfast together.

These photos highlight loving connectings in so many ways – the way a father helps his daughter whisk eggs, a mom tickling her baby, an older child peeking into a crib. It’s all sweet and timeless and ephemeral at the same time.

After breakfast, I walked with the Nova family to Good Folks Coffee. They picked up some sweet treats including a bright orange macaron for their elder daughter. I loved getting down to her level to photograph the coffee shop from her perspective. She nibbled her cookie all the way to the park.

At the playground, parents and kids played their hearts out. The photos from this part of the session preserve the spontaneous joy that’s such a special part of this stage of a family’s life. By the time the grownups were ready to head home, the kids were ready for a nap!

Planning Your Family Photography Session

If you landed on this blog post, you’re probably looking for a Louisville family photographer to document your own session. Here are a few tips to help you plan for the best experience possible.

1. Decide whether to have it at home or another location.

You can have your family photos taken in so many places. It could be in a studio, at a park, or your family’s home. Which one is right for you will depend on the experience you want to preserve. For a more documentary or lifestyle approach, a session at home or in a favorite park can be the best option.

2. Get everyone on the same page.

Let your photographer know what your main goals for the session are. Are there any must-have images? Or a feeling you want to preserve?

Remember to give your family a heads up about the plans. That includes the kids! If they know what’s going on ahead of time, they have time to get used to the idea of someone with a camera walking around their house first thing in the morning. You can even ask them what they hope for in the session.

3. Let your kids be kids.

Lifestyle family photography is great because it doesn’t require kids to pose much. They get to run, play, and snack. In fact, those tend to be the best photos! It can be a lot less stressful than getting everyone posed perfectly in pristine outfits.
