Unique Louisville Engagement Photos with Skateboards and Books

If you’re planning Louisville engagement photos, chances are you want images that feel unique and genuine to your relationship. As a Louisville photographer, I’ve documented many engagements. I’m sharing some of my favorite tips to create unique Louisville engagement photos along with highlights from a fun session featuring skateboards and books.

In this blog post, we’ll explore:

How to Have Unique Louisville Engagement Photos

I’ve documented a lot of Louisville engagement photos. There are three things that inevitably make an engagement session relaxed and fun with meaningful photos.

1. Dress Like *You*

It’s easy to fall down a Pinterest rabbit hole planning outfits. Trends are constantly changing, even in the wedding industry. When you’re in front of a camera, though, the most important thing is that you’re comfortable. You want to feel like yourself.

Zyanne and Eric did a great job of choosing their outfits for their Louisville engagement photos. They’d obviously planned what they were going to wear and looked photo-ready. But they also looked like themselves. Their outfits suited their personalities and tastes. It was perfect.

2. Choose a Location You Love

Is there a place you love to spend time together? A coffee shop where you sip lattes on Sunday morning? A park where you walk your pups after work? It’ll be easier to relax during your session if you’re somewhere you feel at home to begin with.

Louisville has so many fun places like this, too! Here are some fun spots for candid, quiet engagement photos:

  • Cherokee Park

  • Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest

  • Nouvelle Bar and Bottle

3. Really be with Your Person

The best photos – the ones you hold closest over the years – are the ones in which you’re obviously really present with your lover. The tender touches and belly laughs don’t happen when you’re focused on your photographer; they unfold when you’re soaking up time together.

If you put all of this advice into action, you’ll end up with unique engagement photos that authentically represent your love.

Coffee Shop Engagement Photos at Full Stop

We started Zyanne and Eric’s Louisville engagement photos at Full Stop, a coffee shop in Germantown. It was a windy March day, so we enjoyed the chance to get to know each other a bit over warm drinks before heading into the chill.

Full Stop is a dreamy spot for a photo session thanks to all the sunlight. It gives everything a nice, natural glow. The shop and outdoor area are fun spots for photos, too. You could probably do an entire photo session just at this coffee shop and get a ton of variety in your gallery.

Skating through Tyler Park

After warming up at Full Stop, we headed to Tyler Park. Zyanne and Eric both love to skateboard, so it was the perfect activity to incorporate into their Louisville engagement photos! They’re in their element in these photos. The joy on their faces can’t be prompted.

I love photographing lovers doing activities like this because you get the best candid photos. Posed portraits definitely have their placement in engagement and wedding galleries, but there’s something about those moments when people are only thinking about each other, not the camera.

Romance at Carmichael’s Bookstore

We ended these Louisville engagement photos with a stroll down the aisles of Carmichael’s Bookstore. It was an easy walk from Tyler Park. Carmichael’s is cozy with its narrow aisles, but it gave Zyanne and Eric to cozy up and chat about the books on the shelf.

The photos at Carmichael’s look different from the rest of the gallery in terms of the setting. At the same time, they make sense. It’s easy to imagine that this is just a day in Zyanne and Eric’s life together: sipping a leisurely coffee, skating in the park, and picking out their next read.

Do you like the idea of doing a similar engagement session? If you couldn’t tell, I love photographing engagement sessions at coffee shops and bookstores. Check out this film session I did at Mickey’s Coffeeshop and Bookstore in New Albany, Indiana!
